States Implement Breach Notification Laws

Starting January 1, 2016, California will impose more stringent rules upon the event of a cyber breach.

New California laws update the definition of encryption and further define what constitutes personal information. The laws also set forth specific topics that must be addressed in a notice to individuals whose personal information has been breached.

Employers doing business in California should be aware of the new standards in the event of a breach of personal information.
