A new special enrollment period for Marketplace enrollment is being offered to individuals who owe a tax penalty for not having health coverage in 2014. Between March 15 and April 30, 2015, individuals who owe a tax penalty for not having health coverage or having insufficient coverage will be given an opportunity to enroll in Marketplace coverage.

The penalty for not having coverage in 2015 is $325 per person, or 2% of household income, whichever is higher. Individuals will not be subject to the penalty for a lapse in coverage of less than three months.

Individuals may wish to enroll in the Marketplace to avoid paying the health care reform tax penalty next year. For more information, visit www.healthcare.gov.
