The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) released a joint advisory suggesting organizations protect themselves during the Labor Day holiday weekend.

According to the advisory, there have been an increase in “highly impactful” ransomware attacks occurring on holidays and weekends when offices are closed. The FBI and CISA suggest companies be diligent with network defense practices before and during office closures.

Specifically, companies should:

  • Make an offline backup of data
  • Advise employees to avoid clicking on suspicious links
  • Secure and monitor remote desktop protocol endpoints
  • Update operating systems and software
  • Use strong passwords
  • Use multifactor identification

Good cybersecurity practices are always important but especially crucial during a lead up to a holiday weekend.
