Q.- An employee’s doctor recommended that she take nutritional supplements. Our FSA administrators denied her reimbursement request. Should the supplements be eligible for payment from her health FSA?

A.- The nutritional supplements should not be reimbursed without a valid letter of medical necessity from the prescribing physician. If the employee gets a letter of medical necessity for the specific supplements, they may be considered for reimbursement (with the proper receipts).
