Q.- I know under health care reform, a large employer has to offer coverage to employees who work 30 hours or more per week.  Does this mean we have to take away coverage if an employee works less than 30 hours in a week?

A.- No.  An employer does not have to take away coverage from an employee working less than 30 hours per week.  An employer is always free to be more generous to employees and offer health coverage to someone who works less than 30 hours per week.  You should certainly consult legal counsel if you plan to take away an employee’s health coverage eligibility mid-year.
