Q. What should we do if an employee can’t provide documentation for an expense he purchased with his flexible spending account debit card?

A.- Some employers require that the employee pay the plan back for the expense that cannot be substantiated. Other employers contact their legal or business advisors for guidance on how to recognize the unsubstantiated claim from a tax standpoint.
