Q. Our health plan used to cover our independent contractors. When we renew our plan April 1st, we will no longer be able to cover these people. Do we give them the right to continue our coverage under COBRA?

A. No. You do not have to provide the independent contractors the right to continue coverage under COBRA. A change in eligibility provisions under your health plan that causes a loss of coverage is not an event that triggers a COBRA right.
