IRS Identity Protection Tax Tips

As part of its “cyber-security month” outreach efforts, the IRS released tips on identity protection.

The IRS suggests 7 steps to practice regularly.

  1. Read credit card and banking statements carefully and often.
  2. Review and respond to all notices and correspondence from the Internal Revenue Service.
  3. Review your three credit reports at least once a year. Visit annualcreditreport.com to get your free reports.
  4. Review your annual Social Security income statement.  
  5. Read your health insurance statements.
  6. Shred any documents with personal and financial information.
  7. Use direct deposit for federal deposits.
