Open enrollment for the Health Care Marketplace is open and runs through December 15, 2021. Individuals who visit www.healthcare.gov and elect coverage during this time will have coverage beginning 1/1/2022. Current Marketplace enrollees must re-elect coverage for 2022 during the open enrollment period.

More people than in past years may be eligible for a subsidy to purchase coverage through the Marketplace. An employer may be penalized for an employee who receives a subsidy to purchase Marketplace coverage if the employer does not offer that employee affordable, minimum essential coverage.

Employers should review their costs and plans for all employees to avoid penalties for employees who enroll in Marketplace coverage during the open enrollment period.
