A provider of identification cards for insurance carriers encountered a systems data breach.  Newkirk Products, who provides ID cards for insurance carriers, including several BlueCross BlueShield entities, discovered that one of its servers had been accessed without authorization.  Upon knowledge of the breach, the server was deactivated.

The server may have contained name, date of birth, dependent names, primary care providers, Medicaid ID numbers and addresses.  No social security numbers, banking information or medical data was accessed.

Individuals who were impacted by the incident were mailed letters and offered free identity protection.  An investigation is ongoing.
