The Department of Labor provides explanations to employees on steps to take to ensure proper health coverage at different stages of life.
The DOL guidance, “Life Changes Require Health Choices…. Know your Benefit Options” discusses several life events and the ability to elect coverage after an event. Specifically, it addresses:
- Marriage
- Pregnancy, childbirth and adoption
- Child no longer being a dependent and
- Death, legal separation, divorce.
The guidance addresses what an individual needs to know about the event and what needs to be done after the event.
