BAS has been certified to access the Limited Access Death Master File (DMF) from the Social Security Administration (SSA).  With this certification, BAS continues to provide comprehensive identity fraud and death records matching offerings as part of its Employee & Retiree Verification (ERV) service.

The Limited Access DMF includes over 85 million records of deaths that have been reported to the SSA.  Each record includes the decedent’s Social Security number, name, date of birth, and date of death provided that the information is available to the SSA.  The SSA has a newly established certification program and restricts access to some DMF data to only those organizations that are approved as certified subscribers.

BAS has completed the certification process successfully and has been granted access to records on deceased individuals within three years of death.  In obtaining certification, BAS represented to the SSA that it had a legitimate interest in and business purpose for accessing the information in the DMF.  It also demonstrated that it had experience maintaining confidential information and could properly safeguard DMF data.

BAS uses the information contained in the DMF to compare employees’, retirees’, and dependents’ Social Security numbers in MyEnroll.com with those of deceased United States citizens identified in the DMF.  BAS’ Employee & Retiree Verification service can help employers determine if any employees or dependents are illegally using a Social Security number that belongs to a deceased individual.  Employers can also identify if a deceased participant (typically in a retiree plan) still has an active record in MyEnroll.com (perhaps because no one notified the employer on behalf of the deceased).
