Early New Hire Enrollment Feature Added to MyEnroll.com

Shortly, BAS will be implementing a new feature in MyEnroll.com that will permit teachers to enter MyEnroll.com to make benefit selections for new hire open enrollment upon contract finalization and not have to wait until their first day of employment. The new hire open enrollment can take place any time prior to the beginning of the new school year.

Background
In many public, private and parochial schools, teachers receive their contract in the Spring for the school year beginning the following September of the same calendar year. The newly contracted teachers are provided all of their benefits information upon contract finalization. Many teachers would like to immediately complete their benefit plan elections that will go into effect in September, and not have to wait for the first day of employment.

The Challenge
The challenge with allowing teachers to enroll around the time their contract is finalized in April or May is that this may be well ahead of their school determining its benefit plans for the upcoming school year. Most schools operate on a July 1 to June 30 fiscal year. Therefore, even though newly contracted teachers would like to go online to affect their new school year enrollments, they usually have to wait until they return from summer break to make such elections.

The Solution
BAS has developed added controls in MyEnroll.com that will allow teachers to go online as soon as the school finalizes its benefit plans and rates for the forthcoming school year. With the new MyEnroll.com “Teachers Early New Hire Enrollment” capabilities, newly contracted teachers will be able to go online at MyEnroll.com and enroll well in advance of the new school year beginning the following September.

Prior to New Plans Approved
Irrespective of MyEnroll.com’s new capability to accept early teacher enrollments, teachers will not be able to begin the early enrollment process if the school's benefits are not set up in MyEnroll.com. If teachers login to MyEnroll.com during a period between the time their new contract is settled and the completion of their schools’ new plan year setups, MyEnroll.com will provide them with prompts that explains why they cannot enroll at that time. Further, MyEnroll will email teachers automatically when they may login to MyEnroll.com and begin the early new-hire enrollment process.

Upon New Plan Approval and Setup
Once a school finalizes its benefit plans for the new school year, communicates those plans to BAS, and BAS sets up those plans in MyEnroll.com, teachers will be able to enroll. Typically, the decision and setup process will conclude by mid-April to mid-May.
