BAS is Ready Even Though HIPAA 5010 Enforcement Delayed

HIPAA 5010 requires health plans and providers to use new standards to electronically conduct certain health care transactions, including claims, remittance and eligibility processing. The government recently announced a delay in enforcement of HIPAA 5010, but BAS is already sending health plan data in HIPAA 5010 format to providers who will accept the transmission feeds with the updated data requirements.

ERISA Plans Must Have QMCSO Procedures

A medical child support order directs an employee to cover his or her child under the health plan. If the order meets certain requirements, the employer must enroll the child for coverage. All plans subject to ERISA must have written procedures in place for determining if an order is a Qualified Medical Child Support Order (QMCSO) and must be followed.
