White House Cybersecurity Memo

The White House issued cybersecurity recommendations to the private sector after recent attacks on interstate commerce and government agencies.

The memo advised that “all organizations must recognize that no company is safe from being targeted by ransomware” regardless of size or location. Companies are urged to convene their leadership teams immediately to discuss ransomware threats and review security posture and business continuity plans. Steps to take include implementing multifactor authentication for system access, enhancing security teams, testing backup servers, updating patches, testing incident response plans and limiting access to networks.

Employers should heed the warning from the White House and review security plans and processes.
