Q.- I know day camp expenses are eligible for reimbursement from a Dependent Day Care FSA. What about the cost of an online, virtual day camp?

A.- It is likely that the cost of a virtual day camp would not be eligible to be reimbursed from a dependent day care FSA.

For an expense to be eligible for reimbursement from a dependent day care FSA, it must be for the care of a qualifying individual. An expense is considered "care" if its primary function is to ensure the individual's well-being and protection.  It would be difficult to argue that the primary purpose of a virtual camp is to ensure a child's well-being and protection.
