While employers are in the process of preparing and distributing their 1095 Forms to meet the extended deadline of March 2, 2020, they should remember that the IRS did not extend the Form 1094 reporting timeline.

Form 1094-C is the form used by applicable large employers to report to the IRS summary information about coverage and offers of coverage. All of the 1095-C forms furnished to individuals are provided with the IRS Form 1094-C transmittal.

Form 1094-B is the transmittal form used by insurance providers and by small employers with self-funded health plans to report information to the IRS. All of the 1095-B forms furnished to employees are provided with the IRS Form 1094-B transmittal. The IRS did not change the deadline for filing Form 1094-B and Form 1094-C. Employers who file 1094 Forms by mail must make their filings by February 28, 2020. This date is actually before the due date for furnishing 1095 Forms.

Employers who file 1094 Forms electronically (required for 250 or more returns) must complete the transmission by March 31, 2020.
