2022 HDHP/HSA Limits

The Internal Revenue Service announced tax code inflation adjustments for HDHPs/HSAs/HRAs for the 2022 tax year. Employers should note the new, upcoming limits for their welfare benefit plans.

  • HDHP Maximum annual out-of-pocket limit
    • Self-only coverage increases from $7,000 in 2021 to $7,050 in 2022
    • Family coverage increases from $14,000 in 2021 to $14,100 in 2022
  • HDHP Minimum annual deductible
    • Self-only coverage stays the same in 2021 and 2022 at $1,400
    • Family coverage stays the same in 2021 and 2022 at $2,800
  • HSA Annual contribution limit
    • Self-only coverage increases from $3,600 in 2021 to $3,650 in 2022
    • Family coverage increases from $7,200 in 2021 to $7,300 in 2022
    • Catch-up contributions stay the same in 2021 and 2022 at $1,000
  • Excepted Benefit HRA
    • Annual contribution limit stays the same in 2021 and 2022 at $1,800
