Employers who offer their employees the opportunity to use the BennyCard pre-paid debit card in connection with their flexible spending account plans should remind employees to save the card from year to year. Many employees discard the card when they have used up the available funds for the year.
The BennyCard is reloaded each plan year with the participant’s health flexible spending account election. The card should not be thrown out. In fact, if the card is discarded, the participant will have to pay a $10 replacement fee.
Employees should be reminded during open enrollment that their new flexible spending account election will be available for use in the upcoming plan year and it is not necessary for a new card to be issued.
