Almost 6,000 doctors affiliated with Anthem Blue Cross of California were notified that their Social Security and/or tax ID numbers were erroneously posted on the Internet.

Anthem has stated that PDF documents containing providers identifying information were on Anthem.com for more than 24 hours in October this year. The information was intended to help individuals find a doctor, but more information than needed about the doctors was included in the post.

Anthem removed the information, and has established additional process checks before information is posted to its website. It has offered free credit monitoring to the doctors implicated in the breach.
