Q. - My daughter will be attending an after-school math enrichment program next school year while I am at work. I have been told that the cost of the program cannot be reimbursed from my Dependent Day Care Flexible Spending Account Plan. Is that true?

A. - You are correct. The cost of an after-school math enrichment program is not an eligible Dependent Day Care Flexible Spending Account expense, even if your daughter takes the class while you are at work. To be reimbursed from your Dependent Day Care FSA, the expense must be for "care" of your dependent, which is considered to be the well-being and protection of the qualifying individual. Amounts paid for education are not generally considered to be for care. The math enrichment program seems to be an educational program, not a program for care.
