BAS announced today that it and WebMD are jointly developing secure single sign-on capabilities to WebMD's wellness account management system from within MyEnroll.com.

Single sign-on (SSO) is a property of access control of multiple related, but independent software systems. With this property a user logs on once and gains access to all systems without being prompted to log in again at each of them. As different applications and resources support different authentication mechanisms, single sign-on has to internally translate to and store different credentials compared to what is used for initial authentication.

The SSO between BAS' MyEnroll.com and WebMD's wellness management system should be operational by February 2012. Though BAS and WebMD are developing the SSO on behalf of their mutual client - an insurance trust comprised of 50 organizations based in San Francisco - BAS will be able to deploy it for other clients who are contracted with WebMD for wellness services.

BAS President Arthur S. Taylor said "Single Sign On from MyEnroll.com is an important initiative that will centralize into one place - MyEnroll.com - user authentication for all participating client partners. Further it will simplify clients' employees' access to the many websites that support their group insurance plans.

Taylor elaborated "We are anticipating building several SSO connections with many health care partners, in an order to simplify their employees' access to a wide range of systems."

The SSO will enable BAS' clients' employees to logon to BAS' MyEnroll.com and then link to the partners' websites without the users having to logon to each partners' site. MyEnroll.com will make the logon with the partners' sites within the link it establishes seamless and without employee user interaction.

Presently, BAS has a working SSO connectivity with MetLife to support their mutual clients online statement of health ("SOH") processing. In this scenario when a client's employee makes a life insurance benefit election in MyEnroll.com, MyEnroll.com instantly and seamlessly connects the employee to the MetLife SOH processing website wherein the employee completes the required SOH forms and then seamlessly returns to MyEnroll.com to continue with their enrollment process.
