Mobile Device Policies Important in the Workplace

As the workplace grows increasingly global, many employees access employer email and other data through personal mobile devices. Employers find that allowing employees to "bring your own device" increases productivity. Employees appreciate the opportunity to be tuned- in to the job at all times.

Allowing remote access to company information inherently poses risks. Employers should be sure to establish rules around remote email access.

BAS limits remote email capabilities to only those employees who have a need to access email outside of the standard work hours. Employees must sign a Mobile Device Agreement with BAS, attesting that remote email access is subject to the same terms and conditions as in-office access, that they will not download any documents onto a non-encrypted device, and that they will set a locking mechanism on any device used to access BAS emails, with the lock engaging after 1 minute of non-use. BAS knows which employees have remote capabilities, and sets up a process to regularly monitor the use of security on mobile devices. Employees are obligated to notify BAS if a mobile device is lost or stolen, and BAS has the ability to remotely wipe most devices back to the factory settings.

Mobile device policies are important as more and more employees access company documentation outside of the office setting.
