Vision Plans and COBRA

Q- Are Vision Plans subject to COBRA continuation coverage requirements?

A- Generally, yes. If the vision plan is considered a group health plan, it would be able to be continued under COBRA. Whether it is a health plan depends on how the plan is structured and how the company treats the plan (ie, do they file a 5500?). Vision plans are generally health plans. However, if it is the type of plan that purely gives a dollar amount or discount toward vision products, it is possible that it is not a health plan subject to COBRA.
