Strong passwords are essential for keeping personal data safe and secure. MyEnroll.com requires the use of a strong password that contains numbers, letters and symbols and is at least 8 characters in length.

Many individuals find it challenging to create and remember strong passwords for their different personal and professional account log-ons. Below, we provide easy tips for creating (and remembering) a strong password.

1. Begin by selecting a key phrase, such as “Baby Bird Blue Flies West Tonight.” The phrase should not be a phrase that you say or use often. You should also avoid commonly known phrases, such as “To be or not to be…”

2. Convert some or all of the words to letters. For example, “Baby Bird Blue” becomes “BBB” in BBBFliesWestTonight.

3. Convert some or all of the words or letters to numbers. In our example, the letter “s” is replaced with the number “5” BBBFlie5We5t2night.

4. Mix in unusual or unexpected capitalization. BbBFlie5we5T2niGHt.

5. Make the password 15 characters or more, if permitted by the website. Longer passwords are more difficult to guess.

6. Using the tips above, alter the password using the same phrase. For example, there are many combinations that can be created from “Baby Bird Blue Flies West Tonight.” Examples include: BBBFlie5We5T2NITE, BbBFW2n!ght, etc.

7. Use different phrases for different types of accounts. Use one phrase for your personal accounts, another for financial accounts and a third phrase for work-related accounts.

While strong passwords are not a guarantee that your information will be safe, they can help deter theft or misuse of personal data.
