The U.S. Department of Labor encourages affirmative actions to employ covered veterans and to advance covered veterans in employment.

Federal contractors and subcontractors must report annually to on their affirmative action initiatives to employ veterans. Documentation of employment of veterans is communicated to the Department of Labor through a VETS-4212 filing and the data is used by OFCCP in compliance evaluations. Information in the filing is reported in summary nature by veteran status, job category, hiring location, and new hire status.
