The U.S. Department of Labor encourages affirmative actions to employ covered veterans and to advance covered veterans in employment. Federal contractors and subcontractors with a contract in the amount of $150,000 or more with any department of the U.S. government must report on their affirmative action initiatives to employ veterans. Information must be provided by job category, hiring location, and new hire status.

Reporting is completed on Form VETS-4212. To select a reporting period, pick  a date in the year between July 1 and August 31 that represents the end of a payroll period. For example, if your payroll period ends on August 15, 2019,  go back one year to August 16, 2018. This is the year that would represent the reporting period for the 2019 filing cycle. Alternatively, you can use December 31 of the previous year.

The 2019 reporting season started August 1, 2019 and ends September 30, 2019. To file the VETS-4212, click here. Frequently asked questions about the reporting requirements can be found by clicking here.
