With much of the workforce now working remotely, it’s a good time to remind employees of maintaining good security practices. Cyber criminals have tools to capitalize on security flaws which may arise in telecommuting arrangements. Employers should remind their workforce of the following.

  • Be on the lookout for phishing emails. These messages may encourage employees to click on links relating to COVID-19 or may contain what appears to be instructions from management. Don’t fall into the trap and download malware.
  • Make sure devices are up to date with anti-virus protections.
  • Use multi-factor authentication wherever it is available.
  • Don’t use Bluetooth in a public space.
  • Work in secure, password-protected Internet connections.
  • Review security setup before logging on through a public WiFi.
  • Don’t access private, confidential information from a public WiFi unless logging on through VPN.

Employees should be reminded of security best-practices when working out of the office location.
