Text Message Scams

The IRS has identified an uptick in text message scams, also called “smishing.” The IRS will not initiate contact by phone, email, text or social media. Cyber criminals pose as the IRS in an attempt to steal personal and financial information. These nefarious actors send a text with a phone number to call. The IRS reminds people that it will not make initial contact by phone, email, text or social media. Click here to view a video released by the IRS about smishing scams.
