Smishing” occurs when nefarious actors send text messages, pretending to be from reputable companies, trying to induce the recipient to reveal personal information such as passwords or credit card numbers. Smishing scams are increasing the U.S. as people get more and more spam texts each month.

Employers may wish to remind employees that legitimate companies rarely communicate with people by text as an initial form of contact. Having a smish-aware workforce will help companies increase their security compliance posture.
