Q.- An employee is undergoing medical treatment and has to drive about 100 miles each week to get that treatment. He asked if he can use his Health FSA to pay for his driving costs. Is that allowed?

A.- If the travel is properly documented, he may be able to get reimbursed for his driving costs. In 2023, the standard mileage rate for medical uses of an automobile is $65.5 cents per mile. The employee should document the travel, perhaps with a map showing the amount of miles between his home and the site where he is receiving medical care.
