Q.- We offer a few different medical plans to our employees. A COBRA participant wants to change plans to a lower cost option. It is not open enrollment time. Do we have to let him change plans?

A.- If he is not experiencing a life event that would support a mid-year election change and if it is not open enrollment, you do not have to let him change plans. If your plans are insured, the insurance company may not even permit a mid-year switch.
