Q.- Is the cost of an at-home genetic test kit eligible for reimbursement from my health FSA?

A.- Maybe. The IRS has explained that the “health” portion of mail order testing kits is eligible for reimbursement from a health flexible spending account plan, but genetic “ancestry” testing is not eligible for reimbursement. If the test is providing both ancestry tracing information and health information, only the portion of the cost attributable to health testing may be reimbursed. The exact determination of which expenses are eligible is determined by the terms of your employer’s plan.
