Q.- I heard there is an option for free COBRA. Does everyone who is on COBRA now get free coverage?

A.- The American Rescue Plan Act creates a 100% COBRA subsidy for individuals who are continuing coverage through COBRA (and state mini-COBRA) due to an involuntary termination of employment or reduction in hours. The subsidy is effective starting April 1, 2021 through September 30, 2021. It does not apply to the entire COBRA population. It applies only to assistance-eligible individuals who are not eligible for other health coverage. There are other requirements to be entitled to subsidized COBRA coverage.
