Q.- We have an employee who wants to be reimbursed from his health FSA for medical items he is buying for his aging mother. Is this allowed?

A.- The employee may be reimbursed for eligible health care expenses for himself, his tax dependents for health coverage purposes, or his child who is under age 27 at the end of the taxable year. A parent’s expenses may be eligible for reimbursement if the parent is a dependent. The parent would have to live in the household and the individual must provide over half of her support. Otherwise, the expense is not eligible for reimbursement from his health FSA.
