Q.- An employee wants to be reimbursed from his health flexible spending account for bandages. We would typically allow the reimbursement, but he purchased 100 boxes of bandages. Do we have to allow the reimbursement?

A.- Probably not. It seems like the employee is “stockpiling” bandages. It would be difficult for him to show that he needs 100 boxes of bandages for a medical purpose. The plan should not reimburse the cost of items that will not be used for a medical reason, including the cost of stockpiled items.
