Q.- Can a participant use his health care flexible spending account to pay for vitamins?

A.- The participant will need a letter of medical necessity from a doctor in order to be reimbursed for the cost of vitamins. Vitamins are, for the most part, for general good health and not for the treatment of a medical condition. Therefore, the cost of vitamins are not eligible for reimbursement from a health FSA without the item being documented as medically necessary to treat a medical condition.
