Q.- I understand I have an extended time to elect and pay for my COBRA coverage due to the COVID-19 outbreak. My COBRA coverage was due to start March 1, but I only want coverage for June. If I make one payment and indicate June on the check, can I elect and pay for June, only?

A.- No. Under the COBRA rules, there can be no lapse in coverage between your loss of coverage under the active plan and your start of COBRA continuation coverage. If you pay for one month of coverage, that payment will be applied to March coverage. You must pay for coverage for March, April and May in order to be eligible to pay for and get coverage for the month of June.
