Q.- My employer offers a debit card with my health FSA. May I use the card to purchase pain relief medicine?

A.- Yes. Pain relief medicine is eligible for reimbursement from a health flexible spending account plan. Pain relief medicine used to require a prescription to be eligible for reimbursement from a health FSA, but the prescription requirement has been removed as of 1/1/2020. Merchants are in the process of updating their systems to recognize debit card swipes for over-the-counter medicines and drugs without a prescription requirement.
