Q.- We will be having summer interns working for us in July and August. They will be working 40 hours per week. Do we have to offer them health coverage because of their hours?

A.- Probably not. It sounds like the interns will meet the definition of “seasonal employee” under the Affordable Care Act and seasonal employees do not have to be offered health coverage. An employee is seasonal if the position they are hired into is one that typically lasts less than 6 months and the period during which they work begins each year in the same part of the year.
