Q.- An employee terminated. How long do we have to send him a COBRA notice?

A.- A plan should send notice promptly upon the occurrence of a qualifying event. Under the COBRA rules, if an employer has a third party administrating the plan, the employer must give notice to the administrator within 30 days after the employee’s termination of employment. The administrator has 14 days from the date of notice to provide a COBRA election notice to the individual.
