Q.- We have an employee who paid for her contact lenses with her Benny Card.  She is now being asked to send in a receipt.  Why is that?  Contact lenses are a covered medical expense.

A.- All claims paid with the Benny Card that are not automatically substantiated at the point of sale must be documented with receipts.  An expense can be substantiated at the point of sale if it meets an established copayment amount under the terms of your medical plan.  The price of contact lenses varies and it is not an established copay amount.  Therefore, your employee has to provide a receipt to substantiate the charge.  Prescription contact lenses will be eligible to be paid from a health FSA if the charge is properly documented.
