The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (“HITECH”) Act amendments to HIPAA requires the Secretary of Health and Human Services to post a list of breaches of unsecured protected health information affecting 500 or more individuals.

The list is published online and is regularly updated. It lists all breaches reported within the last 24 months that are currently under investigation by the Office for Civil Rights. The website has a search tool to identify breaches by type, location and other factors.
