Some employers participate in a benefit plan that allows employees to pay for health and welfare benefits before tax dollars. As a condition of paying for benefits with before tax dollars, an employee cannot change their elections during the current plan year unless a qualifying life event is experienced.

Examples of a qualifying life event include:

  • Change in legal marital status
  • Change in number of dependents
  • Change in employment status of employee, spouse, or dependent that affects eligibility
  • Dependent satisfies (or ceases to satisfy) eligibility requirements

To help HR administrators manage employees that experience a qualifying life event, MyEnroll.com offers the Life Event module.  This module allows employers to put restrictions on when changes can be made to a plan election and helps make the qualifying life event administration process easier.

The Life Event module in MyEnroll.com includes:

  • Employees may self-report life events;
  • Employees may upload substantiating documents directly to MyEnroll or fax the documents to BAS;
  • Permissible benefit election changes in MyEnroll are limited to only those options consistent with the life event, and are customized to the plan document;
  • Benefit election changes pend until a final determination from the HR Benefits Administrator is provided;
  • HR Benefit Administrators can review requested benefit election changes and make decisions to approve, decline or request more information;
  • Reporting capabilities provide HR Benefit Administrators and Department Managers with the tools needed to keep the process moving and avoid administrative delays or errors.
