President Obama signed an executive order earlier this month prohibiting federal contractors and the government from discriminating against employees based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

The order makes it illegal to harass anyone based on gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender status.  The order is aimed at federal contractors, only, and notably does not provide for any exemptions based on religious beliefs.  Employers who do business with the federal government should make sure their anti-harassment policies are up to date and reflect the newly protected classes.
