The IRS warned employers and tax professionals about an increase in email scams targeting employee W-2 Forms.

The scam is a “business email compromise” or “BEC”. The BEC occurs when someone spoofs a company’s email address and makes a request to payroll or HR. The purpose is for the recipient to provide a list of employees and their W-2 Forms.

Employers should warn their employees about this new business threat. Click here for IRS tips on cybersecurity protections.
