The IRS Security Summit has released a summer campaign to combat tax-related identity theft. The campaign is intended to raise awareness about data security.
The “Boost Security Immunity: Fighting Against Identity Theft” outreach will identify actions tax professionals can take to protect client data from theft and thwart identity theft. Recommendations include
- Using multi-factor authentication to protect software accounts
- Sign up clients for Identity Protection PINs from the IRS
- Help fight unemployment compensation fraud
- Avoid spear phishing scams
- Know the signs of identity theft
All businesses, particularly tax-related businesses, should implement best practices to combat data theft issues.
