The IRS released “Identity Theft Central,” a section of its website that provides information on identity theft and data security. The site provides information on how to protect yourself from identity theft and what to do If you are a victim of identity theft. There is a specific section with information for businesses.

If the IRS suspects a fraudulent business tax return, it will issue Letter 6042C to get more information to validate the return or Letter 5232C to get more information to validate the entity. The IRS suggests responding immediately to either of these letters.
