The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (“HITECH”) Act amendments to HIPAA require the reporting of breaches on unsecured protected health information of 500 or more individuals. The Secretary of Health and Human Services is required to publically list reported breaches.

The HHS reporting website was recently updated to list all breaches reported within the last 24 months that are currently under investigation by the Office for Civil Rights. The website has a search tool to identify breaches by type, location and other factors.

Also called the “Wall of Shame,” the listing can be viewed by clicking here.
