The National Security Agency provides guidance on securing wireless devices while in public places. The NSA information sheet explains the techniques cyber criminals use to hack into wireless devices and ways people can protect against it.

This guidance is useful as teleworking has increased and people are using computers more in public settings. Checking work email or connecting to a public network may be convenient but public Wi-Fi may not be configured securely. Data sent over public Wi-Fi that does not require a password to access may be subject to theft or manipulation. Even if the Wi-Fi requires a password, it may not encrypt data traffic.
